SANIBEL

STORIES FROM SANIBEL
Another New Adventure
The plane ride from JFK Airport was uneventful, save for a few herky jerky movements from turbulence. The way I overcame my fear of falling out of the sky each time the aircraft was buffeted was to envision the clouds as waves, and the plane (boat) was merely making its way through them.

It works for me.

This was my third trip to Sanibel Island; close to the 40th for him. Although he preferred to drive, I was able to talk him into flying down, thereby giving us more time to spend ON the Island, rather than just getting to it. In fact, I think he would have preferred we boated there, taking a long lazy drive down the coast and stopping at different ports, watching the sunrises and sunsets, as we drifted to the tip of the crescent shaped paradise.

Maybe another time.

I look forward to those visits these days, almost as much as I look forward to joining my life to his. I can’t imagine how lucky I have been, not only marrying into a wonderful family, but to make friends with his parents as well. My children will have a new stepbrother, already welcomed into the fold as if he was always one of them.

As the plane touched down at Ft Meyers Airport, my thoughts once again returned to my past, and comparisons were not hard to make. Many feelings surface, but the most important one is that of gratitude.

They’ve worked hard for everything they have, and here I come, settling in to enjoy the fruits of their labors. I love him, but I love them too. Not only for who they are, but for sharing it with me.

The Stories Of Sanibel will be dedicated to them, and I can’t wait to share them with you.
